Charge maintenance costs to the correct area or general ledger account by specifying cost codes. The cost for repairing a unit air conditioner, for example, might come out of a particular department’s budget. In Datastream 7i, define cost codes for the organization, and then reference them along with any data involving costs, such as work orders, purchases, material issues, etc.
|
Cost codes simplify tracking costs; however, they might hinder data entry because users must specify cost codes along with their data. The Budget module offers a powerful alternative method of cost tracking demanding extra effort from the end user. |
Follow these steps to define cost codes.
Open the Cost codes form (BNCSTC).
Cost code—Enter a unique code identifying the cost code.
Description—Enter a brief description of the cost code.
Organization—Click to select the organization to which the cost code belongs if you use multi-organization security.
Class—Click to select the class of the cost code.
|
You cannot delete a cost code if it is used elsewhere in the system. Select Out of service to hide the cost code in lists of values. |
Choose File | Save from the menu bar. Datastream 7i saves the information to the database.
