Set up access to external documents on the web by defining a URL installation code for "F" type files to access on the web version of Datastream 7i. When accessing an external document, Datastream 7i looks for the URL you have defined as an installation code for a particular file type to display the document via the web.
However, if Datastream 7i attempts to access an external document whose file name begins with "http://", then Datastream 7i uses the file name to display the external document rather than displaying the document using a URL you have defined as an installation code for the external document type. If you are attempting to access any external documents whose file names begin with "http://", then you do not need to specify a file type for the document, nor do you need to define a URL installation code for the document.
Define the URL file as URLxxx where xxx is the value of Type on the Documents form (BMDOCU). For example, you might enter the code URLPDF to access a .PDF file. Then you would enter the URL indicating the location where all .PDF files are stored in the URL, e.g., http://mycompany.myserver.com/documents/PDFs. When you access an external document after setting up access to external documents on the web, Datastream 7i identifies the document type, and then opens the file using the URL indicating where documents of the specified type are stored.
Follow these steps to set up access to external documents on the web.
Open the Installation codes form (BNINST).
Code—Enter a unique code identifying the URL installation code. For example, URLHTM.
Default—Enter the full path to the URL that contains files of the specified type, e.g., http://mycompany/intranet/.
Description—Enter a brief description of the URL file.
Choose File | Save from the menu bar. Datastream 7i saves the information to the database.
