> Understanding Entities

Entities are the fundamental core of Datastream 7i. Configuration of entities and their respective codes determines what functions of Datastream 7i are available and to which users. An entity is a table of related data pertaining to specific Datastream 7i functions.

There are three kinds of entities in Datastream 7i: Datastream 7i entities, Type entities, and Status entities. Datastream 7i entities are the highest level of entity, and many Datastream 7i entities contain Type and Status entities. View all entities on the Entities form (BNENTS).

Datastream 7i identifies entities as Datastream 7i codes, but they are identified to users as User codes, which are the same as Datastream 7i codes. When you install Datastream 7i, all Datastream 7i codes and User codes are identical. Tailor Datastream 7i to the organization by adding new User codes on the Codes page of the Entities form (BNENTS).

Classes divide entities into groups that share certain characteristics. For example, you can subdivide an entity into classes to define a separate list of custom attributes for each class. Define new classes for all entities on the Entities form (BNENTS).
