Datastream 7i enables you to utilize four asset depreciation methods. This section provides a description of the manner in which Datastream 7i determines the depreciation expenses and book value of an asset for each of the four asset depreciation methods.
Calculated depreciation values are also effected by the system date. Therefore, the depreciation expense (to date), depreciation expense (period to date), and book value (to date) calculations are always a reflection of the system date at the time they were calculated.
The ASDEPTYP installation parameter determines the default depreciation method for an organization. However, you can also set depreciation method on the organization level as necessary. You can also set the depreciation method on the equipment, system, or position level regardless of the setting of ASDEPTYP or whether you have set a depreciation method for an organization. Setting the depreciation method at the organization level supersedes the setting of the ASDEPTYP installation parameter. Setting the depreciation method at the equipment, system, or position level supersedes both the setting of ASDEPTYP and/or the depreciation method specified on the organization level.
The following sections provide an overview of each of the depreciation methods and indicate the information you must enter for each method on the Depreciation page of the Equipment form (OMOBJC).
