> Assigning Menus to User Groups

Assign the menus you defined to user groups. Each menu can have a submenu. On the Menus page of the User groups form (BMGROU), users can display a submenu by placing the cursor on a menu entry and clicking .

You cannot go any further down the hierarchy if the displayed menu is a back-end menu (i.e., the displayed menu is a non-menu function). You also cannot go any further down the hierarchy if the displayed menu is a menu that is already higher up in the hierarchy.

Set up user groups and permissions before defining menu structures.

Follow these steps to assign menus to user groups.

  1. Open the User groups form (BMGROU).

  2. Query for the user group to which to assign menus.

  3. Click the Menus tab. Datastream 7i displays the Menus page. Datastream 7i displays the default first menu. This menu is the root menu: "MENU01 – Main menu."

  4. Seq—Enter a sequence number to add a new menu. The sequence number determines the order in which Datastream 7i displays functions when users access the hierarchical menu.

  5. Function—Click to select the function for the menu.

  6. Choose File | Save from the menu bar. Datastream 7i saves the information to the database.
