Datastream 7i stores the text displayed on forms and used as report column headers in a specific Datastream 7i table. In the global text table, Datastream 7i also stores the text language code. Datastream 7i stores the name of the field and the function to which the text belongs.
When you open a form or report function, Datastream 7i loads text into the text fields in your language. You can globally replace all text with the same dictionary code for a certain language.
Usually, only one or two different text items with the same dictionary code exist, i.e., different length versions of the same text. An example is the text "Prob code," which is also known as "Problem code" under the same dictionary code. When the text is in front of the field, and there is space for at least 18 characters, Datastream 7i displays the longer text; otherwise, the system displays the shorter text.
Follow these steps to change global text.
Open the Global modification of terminology form (BXBOIL).
Text—Query for the text to change. Enter wildcards to find occurrences of the word within composed phrases. The list shows all occurrences of the text in different lengths. In general, only the full word plus one or two abbreviations are present.
|
If the text is not displayed in the desired language, choose Options | Set languages from the menu bar. Select the desired language and requery the data on the form. Datastream 7i displays the text in the selected language. Datastream 7i displays the text length as the maximum value of character space available for the text on a specific form. |
Length—Select the record with the longest occurrence of the text (e.g., with a length of 24).
New text—Enter the replacement text for this field. The replacement text must be shorter than the maximum character length.
Choose File | Save from the menu bar. Datastream 7i saves the change.
Repeat this replacement process by selecting up to the shorter occurrence for which you might want to make a new abbreviation (e.g., a length of 10 characters), specifying the abbreviation in New text and saving.
Choose the following options as necessary:
Post the terminology change to the text items table—Click Update.
Undo an update—Click Restore.
Post all terminology changes to text items table—Click Update all.
Undo all terminology changes—Click Undo all.
Choose File | Save from the menu bar. Datastream 7i saves the information to the database.
