> Modifying Field Properties

Modify default field properties to tailor the way Datastream 7i displays functions. You can change the position and label of fields, make fields mandatory, or hide unnecessary fields.

Follow these steps to modify field properties.

  1. Open the Field properties form (BNCFLD).

  2. Click the Record view tab. Datastream 7i displays the Record view page.

  3. Function—Click to select the function code (mnemonic) of the form.

  4. Field—Enter the name of the field from Item on the Fields and blocks dialog box.

To open the Fields and blocks dialog box, place the cursor in the field about which to view information. Choose Options | Administration | View technical information from the menu bar. Datastream 7i displays the Fields and blocks dialog box.

  1. Length—Enter the width of the field.

To view the current length, X coordinate, and Y coordinate of the field, place the cursor in the field about which to view information. Choose Help | Field properties from the menu bar. Datastream 7i displays the Properties of Item dialog box.

  1. X coordinate and Y coordinate—Enter new coordinates for the field if you want to change its position on a form.

Datastream strongly recommends making a note of the default coordinates before changing them. It is possible to change fields so that they overlap one another. Immediately test the field coordinates after making changes.

  1. Display—Select to display the field on the form. Unselect to hide the field.

  2. Mandatory—Select to make the field mandatory. You cannot make a field optional if it is already required by the system. Mandatory fields must be displayed.

  3. Read-only—Select to make the field read-only.

  4. Choose File | Save from the menu bar. Datastream 7i saves the information to the database.
