Hyperlink functions display details from specific fields on a primary function. When you navigate using the hyperlink function, Datastream 7i temporarily shades the primary function. You cannot access the primary function while the hyperlink function is open.
Datastream discourages using hyperlink menus for simple fields such as Status, Type, or Class because the corresponding screen does not add any additional information to that shown in the list of values. Datastream also discourages using hyperlink menus to link fields to forms that are not logically connected.
Datastream 7i keeps the connection between a field and a hyperlink screen in the same table as field help text. Drill-down and field help operate through a three-level mechanism. First Datastream 7i determines whether you have specified a hyperlink function for a specific function and field. If not, Datastream 7i searches for the function ATTRIB, which relates hyperlink only to the table attribute name (e.g., EVT_CATEGORY). If Datastream 7i does not find a field name, it searches for the function ENTITY, which relates hyperlink only to the last part of the field name, e.g., Category if the field is EVT_CATEGORY.
