Datastream 7i enables you to modify part numbers/codes for both temporary part codes or existing parts.
During the purchase order process, Datastream 7i assigns a temporary part number to a part to prevent the part from appearing in the parts catalog several times with different part numbers. These system-generated part numbers begin with the character "N." You can allocate a new part number to one of the system-generated temporary part number or change the temporary number to an existing part code as necessary and Datastream 7i retains the part information from the purchase order and creates a new part record.
Additionally, many companies assign part codes to parts in their part catalog based on a supplier’s catalog number for the part. Frequently, a supplier’s catalog is updated or changes over time, so an existing part in your part catalog may lose its association with the supplier catalog number. Therefore, you may need to update an existing part code to retain the purchasing history and historical information for the part, rather than creating a new part to associate with the updated supplier catalog numbers.
Follow these steps to modify part codes.
Open the Assign part codes form (SNPART).
Temp part no—Click to select the part number to modify.
Part type—Click to select the part type. Part types are actually part classes as defined on the Classes page of the Entities form (BNENTS).
Choose one of the following options:
Create a new part—Enter a unique code identifying the part or select Auto part code to have Datastream 7i create a part code when you save the record.
|
Auto part code is displayed only if the AUTOPNUM installation parameter is set to YES. |
Change a system-generated temporary part code to an existing part code—Click to select an Existing part to associate with the system-generated temporary part code.
Choose File | Save from the menu bar. Datastream 7i saves the information to the database.
