> Defining Cause Codes

Define cause codes to identify what caused the component or type of component to fail, i.e., the root cause of the problem.

Follow these steps to defining cause codes.

  1. Open the Cause codes form (ONCACO).

  2. Code—Enter a unique code identifying the cause of failure.

  3. Description—Enter a description of the cause code.

  4. General—Select to make the cause code available to associate with any equipment class. General failure codes apply to general terms (e.g., blockage, human error, etc.). Unselect to restrict this code for association with specific equipment classes.

  5. Choose File | Save from the menu bar. Datastream 7i saves the information to the database.
