> Defining Trade Rates for Employees

Define trade rates for employees to establish a specific hourly pay rate for an employee belonging to a designated trade. Trade rates for employees can be defined based on the employee’s level of experience, training, etc. Therefore, employees belonging to a designated trade can have different pay rates than other employees belonging to the same trade.

You must designate a Trade for an employee when you define the employee code.

When scheduling work, you can select to assign the work to an employee and/or a trade. When booking hours for the work, Datastream 7i calculates the labor cost of the appropriate work order, asset, or project based on the hourly pay rate defined for the employee or the trade. Therefore, when booking hours, the labor cost for performing work can be based on the trade rate defined for either the employee or the trade.

When booking hours, Datastream 7i first checks to see if an Hourly rate is defined for the employee. If so, the hours are booked at that rate. However, if you have not defined trade rates for the employee, Datastream 7i assigns the Hourly rate defined for the trade on the Trade rates tab of the Trades form (WNTRAD) to the hours booked for the work.

Follow these steps to define trade rates for employees.

  1. Open the Employee form (WNPERS).

  2. Query for the employee for which to define trade rates.

  3. Click the Trade rates tab. Datastream 7i displays the Trade rates page.

  4. Occupation type—Click to select the occupation type for this work, e.g., select N for normal hours or O for overtime hours. The values listed belong to the OCTP entity.

  5. Hourly rate—Enter the hourly rate for this trade.

  6. Dept—Click to select the department associated with this rate. If the rate applies to all departments, select *.

  7. Start date and End date—Enter the beginning and ending dates to which the rate applies. Dates for the same occupation type/department combination cannot overlap. If the date expires and there is no further range specified, Datastream 7i charges $0 per hour and notifies the planner.

  8. Organization (MOS)—Click to select the organization for the trade rate. Datastream 7i displays only those organizations to which you have access. Otherwise, Organization and Currency default to the organization of the trade.

You can only define organizations for trade rates if the MULTIORG installation parameter is set to YES.

  1. Choose File | Save from the menu bar. Datastream 7i saves the information to the database.
