> Reserving Parts

The Reserving parts form is the primary form used for reserving parts and the only form used for manually allocating parts.

Datastream 7i places a restriction on the allocation of parts for a work order. Datastream 7i does not permit allocation if the number of days to the work order target (start) date is greater than the purchase lead time for the part.

Datastream 7i does not list the reservations for a work order on the Reserving parts form (SDALDE) unless the store from which the reserved parts are taken is associated with the department for the work order on the Departments form (BNMRCS).

Additions or modifications to a work order activity made on the Reserving parts form (SDALDE) do not transfer back to the Activities of work order form (WDACTJ). For this reason, Datastream recommends granting access to this form only to those employees required to use it.

When you reserve a part, it is earmarked for a particular work order; however, this does not guarantee that the part is in stock. For you to allocate a part, it must be in stock and available for use. Depending on stock availability, it is possible to have more parts reserved than allocated.

Follow these steps to reserve parts.

  1. Open the Reserving parts form (SDALDE).

  2. Query for the work order activity.

  3. Parts—Click to select the part needed for the work order activity.

  4. Store—Click to select the store in which to make the reservation.

Datastream 7i calculates the quantity available as the current stock level minus any quantity currently allocated to work orders, other than the one selected.

  1. Reserved qty—Enter the number of parts to reserve.

  2. Allocated qty—Enter the number of parts to allocate.

The number of allocated parts should be less than or equal to the Quantity available.

  1. Choose File | Save from the menu bar. Datastream 7i saves the information to the database.

Datastream 7i may generate a requisition for the parts if there are fewer parts available than needed for the work order.

When you create a material list for a work order and the material list has the reserved flag on for items, Datastream 7i does not list the reservations for the work order on the Reserving parts form (SDALDE), unless the store from which the reserved parts are taken is listed on the Departments form (BNMRCS) for the department of the work order.
