> Defining Subprojects

Define subprojects after defining the project basics. If you are using multi-organization security (MOS), subprojects must be associated with specific organizations.

However, Datastream 7i enables you to associate subprojects in a specific organization with master projects in a common organization. By associating subprojects with a master project, you can then accrue project costs, work orders, booked hours, and material issues from the subprojects to the master project.

Associate the subproject budget with the parent project before defining the subproject.

Follow these steps to define subprojects.

  1. Open the Projects form (JMPROJ).

  2. Click the Record view tab. Datastream 7i displays the Record view page.

  3. Project—Enter a unique code identifying the project, and then enter a description of the project in the adjacent field.

All projects start with a Project status of Awaiting approval.

  1. Class—Click to select the class of the project. The classes shown belong to the PROJ entity.

  2. Estimated start date and Actual start date—Enter the intended and actual starting dates for the project as necessary.

  3. Estimated end date and Actual end date—Enter the intended and actual ending dates for the project as necessary.

  4. Parent project—Click to select a parent project for the project.

  5. Coordinator—Click to select a project coordinator.

  6. Current budget—Enter the total budget amount for the project. Budgets of child projects do not roll up to the budget of the parent project.

Datastream 7i displays the estimated cost of completing the project in Estimate to complete and the total budget approved for the project in Budget approved.

  1. Budget date—Enter the date the budget was established.

  2. Labor cost—Enter the estimated internal labor costs.

  3. Service cost—Enter the estimated service (fixed price) costs.

  4. Material cost—Enter the estimated stock material costs.

  5. Cost direct outs—Enter the estimated amount of money needed to purchase direct materials for the project (those not normally stocked in house).

  6. Hired labor—Enter the estimated hired external labor costs.

  7. Tool usage—Enter the estimated tool usage costs.

  8. Shutdown—Click to select a shutdown identification code to associate with the project.

  9. Choose File | Save from the menu bar. Datastream 7i saves the information to the database.
