The American Trucking Association’s Vehicle Maintenance Reporting System (VMRS) is a set of codes used to track equipment and maintenance within the fleet/transportation industry. VMRS provides a "universal language" so that the various industry segments (e.g., maintenance employees, management, suppliers, and manufacturers) can communicate more easily and accurately.
With the addition of the VMRS option, Datastream 7i is VMRS compliant. Values for all Code Keys are installed in the Datastream 7i database.
Follow these steps to define VMRS equipment.
Open the Equipment form (OMOBJC).
Click the Record view tab. Datastream 7i displays the Record view page.
Equipment—Enter a unique code identifying the equipment, and then enter a description of the equipment in the adjacent field.
If the AUTOANUM installation parameter is set to Yes, Datastream 7i automatically assigns the equipment number if the Type is Asset and the Equipment code is not entered. |
Class—Click to select the Equipment Vocation Code (Code Key 1), which identifies the vehicle’s primary activity.
Manufacturer—Click to select the Manufacturer/Supplier Code (Code Key 34) to associate with the vehicle.
Click More. Datastream 7i displays additional fields.
System level—Click to select the VMRS code identifying the system, e.g., brakes, frame, or suspension, associated with the vehicle (Code Key 31).
Assembly level—Click to select the VMRS code identifying the associated subsystem (Code Key 32). The values available are based on the system-level code.
Component level—Click to select the VMRS code identifying the specific component or part (Code Key 33). The values available are based on a combination of the system-level code and the assembly-level code.
Datastream 7i enters the description of the combination of the System level, Assembly level, and Component level codes in the field next to Component level. |
Enter additional equipment information as necessary.
Choose File | Save from the menu bar. Datastream 7i saves the information to the database.
Click the Custom fields tab. Datastream 7i displays the Custom fields page.
Click to select the appropriate VMRS code for each field. The fields that appear on the Custom fields page are based on the Equipment Vocation Code (Code Key 1) entered for Class on the Record view page.
Click to view the next group(s) of fields as necessary. |
Choose File | Save from the menu bar. Datastream 7i saves the information to the database.
