Publications of SNS and HFIR

What’s incuded
PuSH (Publications of SNS and HFIR) is a collection of publications from the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS) and High Flux Isotope Reactor (HFIR) User Facilities. The database includes publications that resulted from work at the facilities, as well as publications from the staff who work at the facilities. Publications are limited to published journal articles, conference proceedings, books, book chapters, dissertations, and patents. Unpublished manuscripts, presentations, and abstracts are not included. All submitted publications are vetted before being accepted into PuSH.

Publications as measure of productivity
Publications are one measure of the scientific productivity of our user facilities. All users who are awarded non-proprietary time on our instruments agree to publish in the open literature. Users are asked to credit or acknowledge the facility in the body of their publication.

Instrument Publications
Publications are categorized as Instrument Publications when they use the neutron scattering capabilities of our facility instruments. When a publication results from the use of instruments at both user facilities, it is counted only once in our instrument publication totals. Publications may use multiple instruments and we credit each instrument with the publication, but for the facility total, a publication is only counted once regardless of how many instruments are used. Instrument publications are linked back to the actual experiments whenever possible.

Non-Instrument Publications
Staff publications are those publications that have not resulted from use of our facility instruments. These include theory papers and the results of work done elsewhere and are counted as non-instrument publications. Other non-instrument categories include Target/Accelerator, Irradiation, Isotope, and Facility publications.
